Employee Relations

There are many different definitions of Employee Relations. For us at Marshall-James it means anything relating to the relationship between employer and employee. That can also involve third parties such as unions, staff associations and works councils.

Employee Relations cannot be learned from a text book. It is through the experience of working in complex and changing, organisations that real Employee Relations knowledge and skills are developed. Issues that involve people require a lightness of touch and an understanding that one solution to a problem does not necessarily work for every organisation. It is this level of understanding and a carefully considered approach that Marshall-James bring.

Our work in Employee Relations ranges from working with Executive Teams and HR Departments on designing and delivering ER strategies that support the objectives and goals of the organisation. This can involve modernising employee policies and procedures, improving employee engagement, providing workshops for line mangers and HR Professionals and working with unions. We design and set up employee representative forums, train managers and representatives and lead management teams in resolving issues. Above all, we deliver change and professional, expert support where it is needed.

We adopt a robust programme management approach to our projects so nothing is missed and clear milestones are set – this approach helps set and manage expectations with precision.

The impact of poor Employee Relations on any organisation cannot be underestimated. The benefits of creating an excellent Employee Relations environment must not be overlooked

We are flexible on how we approach and cost projects – these typically range from one day to more than a year. We work both inside and outside the UK and have excellent experience of works councils in most European and Scandinavian Countries. The Marshall-James approach will seek to create high levels of knowledge transfer to the client. We will never attempt to create dependency. We will evaluate our success in accordance with the measures agreed at the start of the project.
